St Teresa's College was founded by His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Charles Heerey, Archbishop of Onitsha, in 1948 as a Grade II Teacher Training College, with Rev. Fr. William Butler as the founding principal. In 1952 it became a secondary school, to give a sound Catholic education to the boys of the vast Archdiocese of Onitsha.
Today the college is owned by the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka and is the talk of the town in discipline, sports and academic excellence. Its motto, Bonum Eligere, means "aiming at the highest good".
One of the features of most successful organisations is a commitment by the individuals in the organisation to a common goal, and a determined effort to work together to attain it. Our college identifies the following as its most important goals:
The principal is the chief executive of the college, the headmaster and the officer responsible for its day-to-day running and for carrying out the policy decisions of its proprietor, the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka.
The incumbent principal is Rev. Fr. Paul Ifeanyi Ali, who hails from Umachi in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State. He holds a first degree in Philosophy and Theology, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and a master's degree in Guidance and Counselling, and was ordained a Catholic priest in 2015. He became principal on 28 September 2022.
